HOW CAN I ENTER THE MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA OR MISS TEEN USA PAGEANT?
Potential contestants must apply to enter the Miss Universe pageant by applying through the National Director in your country.
Potential contestants must apply to enter the Miss USA or Miss Teen USA pageants by applying to your local state pageant.
HOW DO I GET TO THE NATIONAL MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA OR MISS TEEN USA PAGEANT?
To compete at Miss Universe, contestants must win their respective national pageants. To compete at Miss USA or Miss Teen USA, contestants must win their respective state pageants. Miss USA goes on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant.
WHAT CAN I DO TO BEST PREPARE FOR THE PAGEANT?
Contestants should discuss preparing for the pageants with their country or state directors. They have a wealth of information, contacts and referrals.
ARE THERE AGE REQUIREMENTS?
Yes. Miss Universe and Miss USA contestants must be at least 18 and under 27 years of age before January 1st in the year they hope to compete in the Miss Universe or Miss USA pageant. Miss Teen USA candidates must be at least 14 and under 19 years of age before January 1st in the year they hope to compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant.
CAN I BE MARRIED?
No, contestants may not be married or pregnant. They must not have ever been married, not had a marriage annulled nor given birth to, or parented a child. The titleholders are also required to remain unmarried throughout their reign.
CAN I COMPETE MORE THAN ONCE?
Contestants may compete more than once in the state pageants, but only once per year. However, contestants may only compete in the national pageants (Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA) once. The winner of Miss Teen USA may compete in Miss USA, but only after her reign has ended and after she competes in and wins her state title.
AM I REQUIRED TO HAVE A PAGEANT COACH?
No. While some feel more prepared when they work with an experienced pageant coach who can give them tips, many women have won titles without any outside training. Candidates also turn to their state and national directors for assistance, as the directors are experienced in providing effective guidance about the pageant.
WHAT IS THE JUDGING CRITERIA FOR MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA AND MISS TEEN USA?
Contestants will be judged in three separate categories; evening gown swimsuit, and a personality interview. There is no talent competition.
WHERE CAN I WATCH THE MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA AND MISS TEEN USA FULL SHOW?
NBCUniversal broadcasts the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants live on NBC in the United States, and distributes the show to international markets. The Miss Teen USA pageant is streamed live on MissTeenUSA.com.
HOW ARE THE PAGEANT SITES CHOSEN?
The Miss Universe Organization works throughout the year with private enterprises, state and city government officials and, in the case of the Miss Universe pageant, with foreign governments to establish the Host Site for each production. The city or country offering the optimal venue and support for the pageant is chosen.
HOW MANY CONTESTANTS COMPETE IN MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA AND MISS TEEN USA?
In the case of Miss Universe, between 80 and 100 countries send a candidate to compete. For Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, 51 contestants participate in the pageant.
WHAT DOES MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA AND MISS TEEN USA DO AFTER THEY ARE CROWNED?
After the winner is crowned, they are whisked away to New York City and are prepped for a media tour where they make multiple appearances at media outlets, networks, charitable organizations, sponsor events, etc. The titleholders spend their reign representing their platforms, raising awareness and funds for charitable alliances, and traveling.
IS THE MISS USA PAGEANT DIFFERENT FROM MISS AMERICA?
Yes. In 1952, Catalina Swimsuits, formerly a sponsor of Miss America, founded Miss Universe and Miss USA in Long Beach, California. Although some women compete in both Miss USA and Miss America, the two systems are completely separate. Miss USA goes on to represent her country at the Miss Universe pageant.
