Elena Semikina is a Canadian actress and producer of Russian descent. She was selected to represent Canada at Miss Universe 2010 shortly after she moved to her new country. This past year she executive produced “Our Man In Tehran,” a feature documentary that premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and set the record straight on the Iranian Hostage Crisis after Ben Affleck’s feature film “Argo” drew controversy, premiering at the same festival the year prior. The film has garnered a great deal of attention and recently won Audience Choice for a Documentary at Cinefest Sudbury.
Semikina also covered the 2012 Miss Universe Canada competition for an upcoming documentary where Jenna Talackova made international headlines when she became the first transgender woman to compete in any MISS UNIVERSE pageant.
In front of the camera, Elena has appeared in the feature films “Three Days in Havana and Gitaskog,” and in the upcoming television series, “Brave New Girl.”
Currently Semikina serves as an Ambassador to the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards and sits on the committee for Oolagen, a mental health center helping Toronto youth and their families.
